A standard ESPN Fantasy football roster combines starting slots and a bench. The exact distribution varies by format. Verify your league's settings before drafting.
Standard starting slots
1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX (RB/WR/TE), 1 K, 1 DEF is the most common NFL setup. The FLEX slot is the most powerful single position on the roster because it can absorb bye-week absences at three different positions.
Super-flex variation
A super-flex league replaces the standard FLEX with a SUPER FLEX that accepts a QB. The super-flex position dramatically raises the value of every starting quarterback — you can start two QBs in a super-flex league, which makes the position scarce.
IDP (individual defensive players)

How decisions change from week 1 to week 17
Weeks 1–4 (Pre-season review)
Use the early weeks to confirm your draft reads. Players who underperformed their ADP in weeks 1–2 are typically not yet buy-low candidates — give them two more weeks. Players who outperformed their ADP by 30%+ in a single week are typically sell-high candidates unless the role change is structural.
Weeks 5–10 (Bye-week hell)
